The convenience industry has a significant impact on the Canadian economy, generating $53.6 billion in sales and supporting 193,000 jobs in 2023.

There are more than 22,500 stores located in communities small and big, coast to coast.

55% of Canadians shop at a convenience store at least once each week.

While most stores are busy, 2024 has been a challenge with the inflationary cost of products, the shortage of staff and the high price of gasoline.

High gasoline prices hurt retailers, the same as consumers. Retail margins are low and fixed; while interchange fees (credit card fees) are variable and increase with price.

About

National Convenience Week

National Convenience Week is taking place from August 26-30, 2024 in communities all across Canada.

It is a time to thank the hard-working, resilient employees in our industry and celebrate convenience stores' role in making communities stronger.

During this time, convenience stores will raise funds for Make-A-Wish® Canada. Over $1 million has been raised from this industry event since 2017.

CICC is proud to partner with Make-A-Wish® Canada to provide "wishes" to critically ill children.

Since 2017, CICC member retailers as well as vendor partners have raised more than $1 million for the charity. More than 4,000 stores across Canada participate in raising funds and celebrating the role Canada's convenience industry plays in supporting communities from coast to coast.

CICC and its members are looking to build on that in 2024.
